I have seen many people already bashing Rich Rodriguez' coaching style saying it will not work in the SEC. Spread Option, poor defensive unit, and no ball (time) control game-plan. I disagree on all points. First, the spread option is barely implemented at Florida without the proper personnel to run it and they are in the National Championship game in year number 2. Their only loss in the SEC was a special teams meltdown at Auburn. Yes the defense at WVU has not been stellar; however, I don't think that any defensive in the Big East has been too stellar. I attribute this to personnel (I may be wrong on this). From what I have heard, Rich Rodriguez runs the offense and he allows the Defensive coordinator to run the defense. If he is smart he should consider keeping Joe Kines or getting Bill Oliver (who is drooling to get back to UA), or anyone who has roots in the SEC. This will help RR and the majority of his staff to learn how to coach, recruit, and deal with the pressures of the SEC and the Bama Nation. Also note that the defensive coordinator from Miami, Randy Shannon, is available! He is considered one of the best in the nation! This is my opinion; but what do I know! Of the coaches in the NCAA, most have said that Rich Rodriguez runs the best spread option as he doesn't shy away from the run by both the quarterback and running back. Of the spread option offensive units in the nation, WVU runs the ball!!! This is well suited for the SEC! Besides, the new NCAA rules for the clock starting on the change of possession has help speed up the game.
I wanna be (for) Rich!
